We will be changing Jessica's name to Zariah. We have been calling her Jessica Zariah for the past week or so to get her used to the name. Today I told her that I was going to call her Zariah and she didn't seem to object. I also told her we plan to change Julius' name to Micah, and she spent the next few minutes calling him Micah. She seems really smart. She remembers more and more words in English every day, is now saying please when I prompt her. In addition, she speaks Lugandan fluently, as we have heard her conversing with other children in Lugandan.
Jessica's name when she came to the orphanage was Pretty Nasasira and the orphanage staff gave her the name Jessica, which is why we feel it is alright to change it. Nasasira will be her middle name.
Julius only had one name, Kiganda. The orphanage named him Julius and gave him the middle name Hodgkins, after the deceased former director. Kiganda will be his middle name.
