There are very few white people here, and no such thing as a double stroller. We lugged one with us halfway around the world, and the sight of two white people pushing two Ugandan children in a double stroller gets us stared at by EVERY person that we pass. Some are friendly, smile and say hello. Others look displeased, and say things to their companions about us that we don't understand because they are speaking Lugandan. I definitely know what it feels like to be a minority now.
Our parenting is also constantly being scrutinized. Whenever one of the kids cries (fairly often between the two of them) in a public place, someone always asks what is the matter, why are they unhappy, or gives us suggestions on how to quiet them or what they need. We really feel pressured when this happens. Not that Ugandan children don't cry for their Ugandan parents, but we are immediately suspect because we are so foreign.
